Piano lessons Basel

With every note

a little adventure

A unique learning program by Marie Minářová – a trained pianist and organist with degrees from music academies in Prague and Basel.
A teaching method suitable for both children from the age of 6 and adults.

Why playing the piano enriches your life

Concentration and clear thinking

Playing the piano promotes concentration and trains the memory. Playing games activates several areas of the brain at the same time, which supports cognitive performance in the long term.

Peace and stress reduction in everyday life

Music offers a conscious balance to everyday life. Playing the piano helps to reduce stress, calm down and find inner balance.

Motivation through tangible progress

Even simple musical steps lead to a real sense of achievement. This progress motivates them and strengthens their confidence in their own learning process.

Fine motor skills and precise coordination

Playing the piano trains the fine motor skills and coordination of both hands. This creates a conscious, controlled and at the same time natural ability to move.

Expressing emotions through music

The piano provides direct access to emotions. Music becomes a personal language that works individually and without words.

Developing discipline with ease

Regular practice strengthens patience, structure and perseverance. At the same time, there is room for joy, lightness and creativity.

Who are piano lessons suitable for?

Piano lessons are suitable for children from the age of 6, teenagers, adults and seniors. The decisive factor is not the age, but the enjoyment of music and the motivation to learn. Lessons are individually adapted to the age and level of the student.

The perfect introduction to playing the piano

Piano lessons are ideal for beginners taking their first steps on the piano. The lessons help to develop correct technique, note reading and good playing habits right from the start.

More progress through targeted support

Piano lessons are also very valuable for self-learners. They help to correct mistakes, improve technique and make faster progress.

Take your skills to the next level

Advanced players also benefit from individual lessons, especially if they want to prepare for certain goals such as exams, performances or a better interpretation of musical pieces.

Questions & Answers

Of course not, because if you’re not quite sure whether you want to play the piano yet, buying a new piano can be a big investment. However, you need an instrument to practise on. It is therefore worth looking for a place to practice first – for example in a club, a church community, with neighbors or perhaps someone in your family has a piano. Alternatively, you can also consider renting a piano or buying a cheaper instrument as a temporary solution.

There is no age limit – playing the piano is possible at any age and has its own advantages.

Children can develop a close relationship with music at an early age and learn the basics of the piano through play. From around the age of six, it is ideal to start discovering the first musical experiences and simple theoretical basics.

Older children also benefit greatly from regular practice and quickly develop a sense of joy in their progress.

But even for adults, it is never too late to start playing the piano or to get back into it. Patience, enjoyment and the willingness to engage with music step by step are crucial.

This is very individual and depends on your motivation, your regularity and the way you practise.

More important than long practice sessions is regular, concentrated practice in small units. Just a few minutes a day can be significantly more effective than infrequent, long practice phases.

The learning process is comparable to sport: if you train regularly and consciously, you will make continuous progress. After about a year of consistent practicing, very beautiful musical results can already be achieved.

This decision is very individual and depends on your possibilities and needs.

As a classical piano teacher, I always recommend an acoustic piano as it offers a unique playing experience. The direct connection between fingers, action and soundboard enables very fine sound shaping, which is particularly important for musical development.

However, an acoustic piano also has practical disadvantages: It needs to be tuned regularly, is difficult to transport and can be of limited use in light-hearted homes or in the evening.

Modern electric pianos today offer a very good keyboard and a realistic playing feel – especially in the higher price ranges. They do not need to be tuned, the volume can be adjusted and you can practice quietly at any time using headphones. They are also flexible and easy to transport.

In terms of price, the difference between a high-quality electric piano and a good used piano is often not that far apart.

It is best to try out both options yourself. Renting an acoustic piano for a while can also help you make the right decision.

If you play an electric piano, a sustain pedal is usually part of the basic equipment.

A suitable piano bench that can be adjusted to your height and allows you to sit comfortably and relaxed for long periods of time is important for every piano.

Good lighting is also recommended, ideally a flexible lamp that illuminates the sheet music well and supports comfortable practicing.

Your teacher will also recommend suitable piano schools or learning materials that are tailored to your level.

Many players also find it pleasant to have a carpet under the piano, as it keeps their feet warm and comfortable.

An app can be a good supplement to regular lessons. However, it cannot tell you that your hand position is wrong, that your fingerings are not helping you or that you should join certain notes because they belong to a melody – and these are just a few examples.

I know students who have been practicing with an app for a while and now say they want to learn to play the piano properly. It all depends: If you just want to learn a piece, an app is enough. But if you want to learn sheet music, understand music and get to know different styles, then an app is not enough.
